Application and Tuition
The Reynolds Young Writers Workshop is open to qualified students who will have completed at least their sophomore year in high school by June 2013. Most students who attend the workshop are going into their junior or senior year in high school; we usually admit a few college-bound students as well. We do not admit ninth graders.
This year’s workshop will be held from June 23-30, 2013. Tuition for the workshop, activities, and full room and board for the 8-day program is $1,200. (On campus residency is required.) Financial assistance, made possible through the Reynolds Endowment, is available. Awards will be commensurate with the applicant’s financial need. To apply for financial aid, you need to complete the form below as well as other application requirments.
- Application Form and Statement of Purpose.
- Creative Writing Sample.More Information
Your writing sample should consist of approximately 10 pages of fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction/essay, or any combination of the three. For fiction, the sample may include a short story, several short pieces, or an excerpt/chapter of a longer work. (Please indicate clearly if your sample is an excerpt.) For nonfiction, you may include memoir, personal essay, literary journalism, etc.. Prose should be typed, double-spaced; poems should be typed, single-spaced. Please do not send more than 10 poems. If you have not done any creative writing, you may send an academic paper from an English class. Writing samples do not need to be in the same genre as the workshop class you want to take. - Financial Assistance Form, (if required).
Financial assistance is available through the Reynolds Foundation to those with financial need. Financial assistance applies to tuition, room and board (not transportation). Admissions decisions are not based on financial considerations. We will notify you of both acceptance and financial assistance decisions at the same time. Please bear in mind that fees cover less than 40% of the cost of running the workshop, and we rely on your help to ensure that we can continue to offer high-quality programming. We ask that you provide a statement explaining your family’s financial situation and need. Supplemental documentation is not required, but may be requested at a later time.
